ADA website remediation

If your website got you sued, we fix the website.

Most ADA website lawsuits say a blind customer could not use the site with a screen reader. We fix those problems in your site's own code, test the result with a real screen reader, and give you a dated record of every fix for your attorney.

Free check against your complaint

Send your website address, and the case name if you have it. Within two business days we tell you which problems the complaint lists are still on your site, and the fixed price to fix them.

For example, “Smith v. Your Shop LLC”

Are you working with an attorney on this?

We use this only to run your check and reply. Privacy notice.

  • Fixed price, agreed in writing before work starts. Most small online stores: $2,000 to $4,500.
  • Most sites fixed and re-tested within 1 to 2 weeks of access.
  • Every fix in your site's own code. No widgets, no plugins.

What we fix

We fix websites to WCAG 2.2 AA, with every issue also mapped to WCAG 2.1 AA, the standard most often cited in these lawsuits and settlements. Whether it applies to you, and how far, is your attorney's call. Doing the work in the code is ours.

  • Images get real text descriptions, so a screen reader can say what they show.
  • Menus, buttons and forms work with a keyboard alone, not only a mouse.
  • Product pages, cart and checkout can be completed start to finish with a screen reader.
  • Headings, labels and error messages are announced properly.
  • Text contrast and sizing are readable for people with low vision.

Every fix is tested on the finished site with keyboard-only navigation and the NVDA screen reader.

What you receive

  1. A findings register: every problem, the page it is on, what it breaks for a blind or keyboard user, and the WCAG criterion.
  2. The fixes, made on a copy of your site and published only when you approve.
  3. Before-and-after proof: automated test reports, keyboard and screen reader logs, and screenshots.
  4. A dated change log, plus an accessibility statement page for your site.

It is a technical record. How it is used is between you and your attorney.

How it works

  1. Free check. Within two business days you know what the complaint's problems look like on your site today.
  2. One fixed price, in writing. No hourly billing.
  3. We fix and re-test. We work on a copy; nothing on your live site changes until you approve.
  4. You get the record. Everything above, dated, ready to hand to your attorney.

We do not sell accessibility widgets.

One-line “accessibility plugins” do not change the website underneath. The problems stay in the code, screen readers still hit them, and lawsuits have named websites running those tools. We change the code itself and test it with a real screen reader.

Working with your attorney

If your attorney has remediation terms from a settlement or consent decree, we build the work and the record around them. We can send the free check straight to your attorney if you prefer.

Don't have one yet? We're not lawyers. For the legal side in the US, we work with The Samuel Law Firm, (212) 563-9884. You're free to use any lawyer.

Common questions

Will fixing the website end my case?

That is a question for your attorney. What we give you is a fixed website and a dated record of the work. How that is used in your case is their call.

Do you need my login?

A staff account on your platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, or similar). We work on a copy of your theme, and nothing live changes until you approve.

Will my site look different?

Almost never. The fixes are mostly underneath: labels, descriptions, structure. Where something visible must change, such as a low-contrast colour, we show you first.

Can the problems come back?

Yes. New products, apps and theme updates can bring them back. We tell you which parts of your site are most at risk, and we offer optional monthly checks.

Are you lawyers?

No. We are an engineering studio. We do not give legal advice or tell you whether you comply with any law.

What this is, and what it is not.

  • Codexyo is an engineering studio, not a law firm. We do technical accessibility work. We do not give legal advice, and we do not determine whether you comply with the ADA or any other law.
  • Conformance with WCAG 2.2 AA, with every issue also mapped to WCAG 2.1 AA, is a technical result measured against published standards. What it means for your legal position is a question for your attorney.
  • We do not promise the outcome of a claim, a demand letter, or a negotiation. Nobody honest can.
  • Accessibility regresses. Content added later, third-party embeds, and plugin updates can all reintroduce barriers. We will tell you which parts of your site are most likely to.
  • The written agreement governs the work. Where this page and that agreement disagree, the agreement wins.

Send us the address. We will tell you what fails.
